Hi, my name is Samara and welcome to Are You Vegan?
A little bit about me – I am English, of Irish descent, married to an American man, currently living in Australia. I know, it confuses me too. We’ve been married just over twelve years now and we still sometimes get confused about the different spelling and pronunciation of particular words which has on occasion resulted in one of us having to call one of our parents to double-check how they pronounce the word and therefore work out the English, Irish, American or Australian version. Needless to say, my son’s accent is not typical of anywhere!
By profession I am a registered nurse and in 2008, the year following our immigration to Australia, I began studying law. I obtained my graduate law degree in 2011 and was admitted to practise law in 2012. In 2015 I returned to nursing and I am currently studying a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Science with a focus on veganism, feminism and activism. I hope to be accepted as a PhD candidate in the next couple of years with a similar focus of research into vegan activism, and maybe feminism – we’ll see how the Diploma goes first.
I can’t finish without introducing the other members of my vegan family: Baxter – our faithful old Labrador/Sheep Dog cross who sadly passed away in 2016, Petra – our beautifully innocent Great Dane/Boxer cross, King George – our battle-scarred older black cat, and Joey (formerly known as Jason) – our two year old ginger tabby with the face of an angel and the spirit of a tiger! We keep reminding ourselves that he is still only two years old. We also have Freya, a 12 month old Great Dane/Irish Wolfhound cross who, like Joey, will one day calm down a bit – we hope! Last, but certainly not least, our five little chicks, who I guess are not so little anymore. They are peaceful souls that I take great pleasure in sitting with after a busy work day, they melt my heart.
I welcome any feedback and genuinely hope that you gain something from this site.
Well, that’s more than enough about me.
Bye for now,
